Chinese Bluegrass

The musical form of Bluegrass originated in the southern United States. Fusing the folk music of the people of the Appalachian Mountains with Blues and Swing it formed a style of music unique to the region. Popularity of Bluegrass music saw a revival several years ago with the highly successful Dieselpunk movie ‘Oh Brother Where Art Thou.’

Bluegrass has continued to evolve over time creating several variations such as Newgrass and Progressive Bluegrass.

Red Chamber is a Chinese string ensemble known that states at their web site, “straddles traditional and contemporary, whether it be ancient Chinese string band music seldom heard in the west, bluegrass, or jazz fusion.”

Here’s a video of Red Chamber playing with the Bluegrass band John Reischman and the Jaybirds.
